“I’m not as dim as you think.”

Nickname: Vel

Name: Veloces

Gender: Male

Age: 19 years old

D.o.B: July 7th

Height: Roughly 2.5m due to long tail

Weight: 95kg

Nationality: Unclear

Reason to stay:

    ·        Fishing activity by humans. It never used to be so heavy where they lived, however as time passed, more humans resided in the nearest towns and more nets were seen lurking. As a result, Vel was driven away.

Favorite Place: The West of the Triangle, however no specific location. Vel enjoys the challenge the jagged rocks bring to him when he’s swimming, which he doesn’t get to swim through in races. This can get quite dangerous, but he won’t listen. Out of practice he tends to lurk at The Starfish Field, enjoying the purely quiet atmosphere while interacting (?) with the starfish.

Forte: Swimming. Excellent in the waters, if he’s missing an event then he’s probably elsewhere signing up for a race. His tail is shaped in a way that streamlines his movement and he appears quite graceful even in the thickest of competitions.  His rather supple build complements swimming, and he depends on the comfort of winning competitions to feel secure.

Personality:

With an innate belief in all things traditional and cultural, Vel tends to be extremely stubborn. He is highly focused when he sets his mind on a task. He can be quite dedicated as well, once he believes that he has found the right person (applies to both friendship and relationships). On a daily basis, however, Vel is quite reticent. He doesn’t speak much about anything and may seem rather aloof at first sight. He pays attention to the smaller details of life and appreciates affection more than material. He tends to be very careful with his words, hence you shouldn’t expect him to say much of anything during an argument (if, somehow it happens). A listener by nature, he enjoys lore and stories by other merfolk.

Rarely will he share his own experiences or feelings—in fact, he may appear like a whiteboard to other people, as they will likely feel their connection being distant. When speaking, he may sound quite cold and brooding. In reality, however, he has quite the attitude; he gets exasperated easily—with a short temper fuse despite his façade, especially at certain things (like conflict, discrimination). They can stir him into an outburst—and with his usual cool composure, it can get scary. Others often regard him as somewhat lacking in personality before they see this face of his.

When swimming, he tends to be quite competitive—regardless of the odds—and aims for the first place. He can get extremely shaken if he loses, because it reminds him of his failure to save his mother. Though from the outside, he’ll seem fine with it and will likely congratulate the winner.

+’ve: Taciturn, devoted, obstinate
-‘ve: aloof/grave, easily agitated, sore-loser

Ideal Partner/ Friend: Dos and Don’ts:

Dos:

    ·        Fun-lover!
Vel doesn’t seem like it, but he really enjoys company that he would usually call “annoying”. Because he’s so stiff and static—lacking the nerve to try something new—he would love someone who could slap his back and shove him into a new field. He’ll just deny it though.

    ·        Reassurance
Vel suffers from incompetency issues deep down. Ever since the loss of his mother, he has become rather fearful of connection in case they ended up in the same fate. He doesn’t want to go through the emotional pain of losing someone important—hence his detached nature. Really, he would interact with the merfolk of the Triangle if only he weren’t constantly terrified by thoughts of failing them.

    ·        Sweet
Making the first move isn’t obligated, but appreciated all the same. He enjoys small movements; being passionate immediately might stagger him, but it depends on their emotional intimacy. Being funny is also quite the charm factor; Vel enjoys funny merfolk for the same reason as happy-go-lucky ones—he doesn’t have the ability to pull off lame puns or jokes. He enjoys light humor over deadpan snarkers.

Don’ts:

    ·        Take him for a fool

While it seem like he’s not there most of the time, there tends to be a lot in his thought process as he goes about finding the right answer. Vel knows he appears slow when he’s weighing the scale, so try not to get too frustrated with him. He doesn’t like it when people think he’s an idiot.

    ·        Leave
He needs time to think about things because he doesn’t want to hurt others. In fact, it may take him quite a while to get back to you if something bad or awkward happened—but it’s always guaranteed that he will, regardless of how close you are to him. While not minding confrontation (might even speed up the process, really…), Vel dislikes the type of merfolk who just turn their tails. To him, it means that he wasn’t worth their company in the first place.

    ·        Bully

Any type, really. From kids to teens to the elderly, Vel has always had a sense of justice against injustice. Gossipers especially tick him off, as he believes you can’t judge a person until you really know them.

Likes/ Dislikes:

+ Silence
+ Company (in moderation)
+Swimming
+ Sea creatures (much like his father)
+ Warmer waters
+Handmade gifts (no matter the quality)

- Noise
- Human material (was extremely hesitant to first approach The Siren’s Kiss)
-Crowds
-Getting his fins stuck in something
-Fights (especially between friends)

Bio:

Vel’s trust issues were harnessed when he was just a child. His mother singlehandedly raised him since he could recall. When asked about the land creatures, his mother would tell him that they were best hundreds of tails apart. The sense of insecurity his mother had was because Vel’s father had been captured by humans (when he ventured too far in his hobby of meeting new species of fishes). When humans started to populate the area more, his mother quickly decided that they were better off headed to another location. On their way, however, Vel’s mother was scooped up. She fought back but to no avail. Vel blames himself for not being able to swim fast enough to her side; he believed that if he had gotten nearer to her in time, he could have freed her. The great school of sardines in the area caused Vel confusion, and he swam around for the place the net was—thinking he could still somehow get to her—but by the time the fishes had cleared out, there was no sign of anything. He was alone in the deep sea. But if there was something he learned over the death of his mother, it was that he had to swim. And swim fast.

Days carried on as he sped through the seas, knowing only to escape from whatever else was out there. At one point he found himself hiding behind a rock, looking overhead at a gigantic ship echoing with noise. Almost acquiring a heartattack from seeing a human, he realized that the denizens were actually merfolk. Happy merfolk. He decided to swallow his fears and discreetly went closer. Probably one of the things he never regretted doing.

Now, like the other Merfolk, he resides at the Core where he can be at peace from human influence. While he has—over the years—recovered from his long-term depressive period, he still fears multiple things despite how he may appear.

Thoughts on humans:

“Beasts. Cruel, cruel beasts. I don’t understand what we’ve done to deserve their hate.”
“Why do they have to hurt us?”
“Best stay away from them.”

Vel can’t be blamed for disliking the human race after what they’ve done to his family. He’s hateful towards them and very wary, though will only show fear if someone else’s life is on the line. He wants to believe that he is fast enough to get away from them now, even though there’s no chance of harm in the Triangle.

Relationships:

N/A for now c’:

Additional info:

    ·        Most frightening/attractive feature is his deep blue eyes. Normally he has grey sclera and a silver-blue iris, but when provoked the sclera turns to a demeaning pitch black—making the iris twice as bright in contrast. This trait  has unknown origins, but was assumedly passed down by his mother.

    ·        Can be found playing with fishes, sharks and other sea residents when not swimming.

    ·        The currents are where he belongs. It will be very hard to persuade him to surface for fear of humans (still paranoid of the Triangle)

    ·        When swimming, he takes off the seaweed wrap around his chest/ arm; it helps him to swim in the currents better. He will put them on again immediately after a race, because he doesn’t like to show his chest in front of strangers.

    ·        His name, Veloces, means swift, fast, quick in latin.

    ·        Has a billion dollar, sheepish smile (or stupid idiot one if you look at the above app) that he rarely spares.

    ·        Sexuality is demisexual (open to all types)

.        Get him while you can! His markings glow in the dark! x'D Plus he has scale-freckles! x'DD

Rp Methods:

Preferably by notes/comments T-T but I’ll travel across the entire world if the rp is interesting. I could try all other means (skype, google docs) if you’re patient enough to deal/teach me >.>

I usually rp by passage over script >.< I-I can try though!
